Technicalities of Pluto
Pluto turns direct at 17 degrees Capricorn after being retrograde since April 20th. Pluto is a very dark, cold, slow planet, and is the furthest known planet from our Sun, visible only with a powerful telescope. It was only recently discovered, in 1930. Unlike other faraway planets, Pluto is not gaseous: It has a sold body. Pluto takes 245 years to orbit the Sun. It is quite eccentric in that its orbital plane is tilted by about 17° off the ecliptic, unlike the orbital plane of other planets. This creates a strange effect as Pluto circles around the Zodiac, because it spends much longer in some parts of the Zodiac than in others. For example, it takes thirty years to travel through Taurus, but only fourteen years to make its way through Scorpio!
From Earth’s perspective, Pluto appears to be retrograde 54% of the year, which makes the retrograde somewhat insignificant in itself. However, the stationary position of Pluto — when it seems to stand still as it changes directions — is when the qualities and characteristics of Pluto are likely to be very noticeable. During a retrograde period, we are often forced to step back and pause in our own evolutionary processes. The stations and retrograde periods of Pluto give us a chance to stop and consider our situation and the next course of action.
The Pluto Return occurs outside of the human life span, so we look to other points in the cycle for significance, such as the Pluto square which often indicates a time of mid-life changes and turmoil. However, because of Pluto’s eccentric orbit, it’s not always a mid-life thing: The square can happen as early as age thirty-seven and as late as age ninety-two!
Pluto in Capricorn
With Pluto currently in Capricorn we are witness to transformation in the areas of government and big business, and some serious changes to the environment are bound to happen. It will be decades before the Pluto in Capricorn generation (babies born between 2008 – 2024) come to power, but they will likely consolidate their political clout very early, and begin changing things from the ground up as very young people.
A conservative and more right leaning way of the world is starting to transpire which is typical for the energy of Capricorn.
Pluto Direct square Mars
This can be quite a doozy of a transit. Lots of unconscious power and rage issues are brought to the surface, like a big boil waiting to burst. And just like that tender flesh, we are hypersensitive. Hurt feelings quickly give way to rage. We have to develop a better way to deal with these emotions or they’ll become dangerous as we lash out at others or try to control them through use of force. The fact is, we can’t conceal our hidden aggression forever. If we don’t give it voice, it will pop out most unpleasantly. Unconscious ego drives can produce terrible behavior, including manipulation, covert actions or outright power grabs. We use a sledgehammer when a screwdriver would do. We’re willing to fight to the death over — what? Strange sexual urges can manifest now, too, because anger and passion are easily confused. And authority issues? Don’t even go there. Don’t mess with the powers-that-be right now. Just do what they say and remember, it will all be over soon.
Pluto Direct conjunct Jupiter
This a potent conjunction that indicates economic changes, intense power grabs, hidden resources coming to light, fanaticism and potential reform. This is one of those times when hints of the future lie in the past. Previous activities that occurred behind the scenes or under the surface are now publicized for all to see, for better or for worse. Revelations, scandals, power plays and attempts at manipulating the System are revealed, and legal ramifications are a definite possibility. On a personal level, individuals are affected too. We speak convincingly; our deep beliefs give us the power of persuasion. When we talk, others listen. Conviction and dedication are easy to relay at this time and we get right to the point without messing around. Direct language is the best way to reveal our insight. We are one with our position; once we decide something, we aren’t likely to change. We don’t like to be challenged, either. Since both these planets relate to money, this is a good time to make financial decisions. Careful, well researched investments pay big dividends down the line.
