Pluto-Saturn Aspects

Pluto Conjunct Saturn

An Agent of Change.

Keywords: intensity, manipulation, possessiveness

There are two main effects of this rare and extremely potent conjunction: recession and war. Its energy is all about the collapse of the existing order and the shape of the new order that replaces it. Consider the three Saturn-Pluto conjunctions of the 20th century: 1914, which coincided with World War I; 1947, which saw a worldwide recession and the start of the Cold War; and 1982, which brought economic stagnation, the Iran-Iraq War and the invasion of the Soviet Union into Afghanistan. This transit is an agent of change and indicates a period of uprooted order and upheaval, political unrest, purging of the past and limited resources. What starts as a simple crack in the dam develops into a wholesale collapse. This is a heavy period that generally induces a lot of hand-wringing, worry and pessimism. We worry about not having enough of anything, so the natural reaction is to conserve, and even hoard. This is the type of transit that is larger than any one individual; it affects large groups of people. On a personal level, our best bet is to stay informed, avoid control issues and make it a point to remain flexible. Circumstances beyond our control may force us to develop inner strength and endurance.

Pluto Sextile Saturn

Controlled Use of Power.

Keywords: individual, centered, secure

On a broad level, this transit indicates an alignment between those in power and the enforcers of the law. But it affects us all on a personal level, too. Right now is a good time to implement changes. We can repress the need for personal growth and transformation or we can get on with it. We shouldn’t permit fear to stand in the way of motion. Action screams, and at this time, it’s more effective than usual. The planets are aligned to help us let go of old baggage and revise our perceptions of our new and improved selves. We are fearless now; we’re able to see what needs to be done and just do it. This is an excellent time to tackle deep and sticky issues. Research and painstaking effort pay off with great rewards, even if they’re somewhat delayed. We have the endurance and fortitude to wait for the benefits of our current activity. We are disciplined, focused and tough. When we perceive an injustice, we work to correct it. Although our resources may be somewhat limited right now, we are able to adjust ourselves to this fact and not suffer too greatly because of it. This transit is excellent for developing inner strength and resilience.

Pluto Square Saturn

A Tense Standoff.

Keywords: intensity, sexuality, compulsiveness

This transit shows that it’s time for a change, but the resistance to this needed change can be great. This urge for transformation and the subsequent resistance to it can happen on many levels, from a broad political perspective all the way down to the personal. Conscious and unconscious motivations collide. We feel threatened by any challenge to our position and every loss threatens our sense of security. This causes us to adhere tenaciously to our belief systems, refusing to listen to anything else. We feel a compulsiveness, a sense of urgency, a lack of time and resources. When we feel so squeezed, there are some people who will feel pushed to do things they wouldn’t ordinarily do -- extreme or fanatical acts that test limits and stretch the boundaries of acceptability -- all in an attempt to resolve the tension between established structures and the need to clean house, improve and transform. Perhaps a better course of action is to recognize what can’t be salvaged and let it go. We should try to get things into proper perspective, which isn’t the easiest task under this difficult transit.

Pluto Trine Saturn

Regeneration.

Keywords: taking control, personal transformation, strength

At this time, we want to build something of lasting value, and we’re willing to work long and hard to make it so. Part of this process involves examining the past and recognizing any baggage that may need to be released. We refuse to carry those burdens anymore. Things come to an end that need to end at this time; it's a natural part of our evolution. In effect, we become our own inner authority. The releasing of this baggage leaves us lighter, freer and more able to accomplish our grand goals. This is an excellent time to tackle deep and sticky issues. Research and painstaking effort pay off with great rewards, even if they are somewhat delayed. We have the endurance and fortitude to wait for the benefits of our current activity. We are disciplined, focused and tough. When we perceive an injustice, we work to correct it. Although our resources may be somewhat limited right now, we’re able to adjust ourselves to this fact and not suffer too greatly because of it. This transit is excellent for developing inner strength and resilience.
