Leo: Madonna

Kelli Fox

Like the true Leo she is Madonna has been commanding attention through her music, style and presence for nearly thirty years. The Guinness World Records listed her as the world's most successful female recording artist of all time. In 2008, Billboard magazine ranked Madonna at number two, behind only The Beatles, on the "Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists", making her the most successful solo artist in the history of the chart.

Love her or hate her Madonna has not only proven herself over and over but re-invented herself over and over again. In 1984 on "American Bandstand, she was asked what she wanted to do, her response was "To rule the world." With three planets in Leo I’m not surprised to hear this response. Leo is the royal sign who needs constant praise and recognition. They need to know they are the best and have loyal followers which of course she did.

She also has three planets in Virgo which make true the rumors that she is hard working, loves detail and is an astute financial investor. People who have their planets bunched up together in a chart such as this one – six planets across two houses are very focused and once they set their mind to something then there’s no turning back. This is also supported by five planets in fixed signs which are known for their rigidity and stubbornness.

To cap it all, her Leo Sun and Pluto in Virgo are close enough to each other to make an out-of-sign conjunction. Sun conjunct Pluto is very powerful, creating a deep connection between her and the public. An out-of-sign conjunction is more complex, coupling together two very different energies. Pluto has a lot to do with sexuality, and Madonna's brazenly outrageous ways appealed to a public tired of the conservative attitudes of the 80's. Pluto is also the planet of regeneration – hence her genius at reinventing herself.

Final analysis: the woman is a living dynamo. Her flamboyant Leo Sun has shone across the decades. Someone should name a comet after her!
